BGO Earns 13th Consecutive ENERGY STAR® Partner of The Year – Sustained Excellence Award in 2023

TORONTO, March 28, 2023The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy have awarded BentallGreenOak (BGO) with the ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year—Sustained Excellence Award for the 13th consecutive year. “Partner of the Year” is the highest level of EPA recognition, affirming the company's unwavering dedication to combatting climate change through energy efficiency and decarbonization. Through BGO’s energy management programs, the firm successfully implemented efficiency measures, resulting in a collective savings of 43.5M equivalent kWh of electricity avoiding $6.12M in utility costs. Amy Price, President, BGO, emphasized the importance of implementing energy reduction strategies within the firm’s managed assets as part of BGO’s fiduciary responsibility towards their clients’ capital. “ENERGY STAR energy benchmarking has played an important role in informing and improving our ESG strategy over the last 13 years,” Price said. “Our ESG approach addresses both value creation and risk mitigation, and that navigating the challenges of climate change, escalating energy costs, shifting regulatory policies, and evolving tenant demands, impact the future performance of our real estate assets. BGO believes that our success with ESG not only benefits our communities but is an important factor to delivering successful outcomes for our clients.” BGO achieved ENERGY STAR certification for sixty-six buildings across its office, industrial, and multifamily residential portfolios. BGO’s ENERGY STAR certified properties demonstrated energy performance in the top quartile of their peers in Canada and the United States. “As we accelerate historic efforts to address climate change, public-private partnerships will be essential to realizing the scale of our ambition,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “I applaud this year’s ENERGY STAR award winners for working with EPA to deliver a clean energy future that saves American consumers and businesses money and creates jobs.”

Each year, the ENERGY STAR program honors a select group of businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions in the transition to a clean energy economy. ENERGY STAR award winners lead their industries in the production, sale, and adoption of energy-efficient products, homes, buildings, services, and strategies. These efforts are essential to fighting the climate crisis, protecting public health, and creating a clean energy future for everyone.
